3 Ways to Diving in Tioman You Wanna Know

[vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]Pulau Tioman is a well-known destination for local divers for the longest time. I dare to bet that nine out of ten local scuba divers has been to Tioman at least once, and would most probably have gotten that Open Water or Advanced Open Water certification there. One of the closest and most popular weekend getaway options for local divers, there are now more options available to cater to all divers![/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]

  1. Kampung Genting: For the budget travellers

    resort2

This is the usual route we always take to Tioman. I think almost everyone knows how the trip works.  We’d be putting up at Kampung Genting, a well-developed island with a few resorts with Genting Island Reef Resort being the biggest. Clean and basic accommodation, (and yes, the rooms comes with air-conditioning), and a short walk to the jetty. There are bars and convenience stores, with our favourite haunt being the Prata House on the way to the jetty, and the Ramly burger joint. A weekend of rugged fun and chill out times!

P.S. Most of the resorts in Tioman come with Kampung-style chalets with basic furnishing. Sometimes, things don’t work too well either on the island. There might be some inhabitants of Mother Nature in your room, but it’s alright, just invite them out nicely. They are not the most welcoming of resorts, but good enough for a weekend’s stay.

  2. Tioman Berjaya Resort: For the Uncompromising Travellers

    tioman_3
This is yet another option that we have been trying to make it happen for the longest time. And we bring to you the Berjaya Resort, a four-star resort with full-fledged facilities and services. Berjaya Resort is situated about 5 minutes away from Renggis, one of the dive sites where Black-tip reef sharks are often spotted.

I don’t think I need to elaborate too much on the resort, the four-star rating speaks for itself. For the comfort-driven peeps, this is another resort-based option at a slightly higher pricing but with another level of comfort. We would still be using our very own boats for the dives and the transfer from Mersing Jetty, where we have absolute control over the timing and where we want to head to, which allows us to pack a night dive in for Advanced Divers and above, instead of having to follow the prescribed dive schedule of the local operator, where a night dive is impossible. So you’ll have the best of all worlds! However, good things don’t happen too often. Diving weekends where we stay at Berjaya are only available on certain dates. Just be sure to book early!

  3. MV Nautica Liveaboard: The Ultimate Hassle-free Option

    12829151_1263699856978807_7059374821722604927_o

MV Nautica is the absolute hassle-free option to diving in Tioman. Similar to the other weekends’ trips, the liveaboard leaves in the evening. Just board the boat at Punggol Marina Country Club in the evening, relax onboard, sleep through the journey while the boat cruises through the waters in the night. Wake up to a panoramic view from your cabin the next morning. Take your time to get ready, perhaps even hit the snooze button a few times, before the leisure climb up the staircase to the top deck for a light breakfast.

The day starts with an orientation or check-out dive at one of the easier sites. Depending on the conditions, we will travel to the most suitable sites. On the liveaboard, you’d be able to travel to islands that are further away from one another and even sites like Tiger Reef, Bahara Rock etc. Look forward to a weekend of leisure dives at some of the best sites of Tioman, with a constant flow of food and snacks in-between dives. Chit-chat with fellow divers, compare notes on underwater photographs or take a nap during your surface intervals. Not only is it hassle-free, a weekend of diving on MV Nautica meant absolute comfort and freedom! Get onboard and we have the entire weekend planned out for you.

Read more about liveaboard diving here!

When it comes to diving, what’s most important is the company. Our trips are made awesome with our crew, who are always there at all times.

5 Weekend Dive Holiday Spots Near Singapore

In a typical year, we have 52 weekends, 104 days, or I could say so for most of us urban-dwellers who have a five days work week. A typical weekend looks like this – snooze till noon, cafe-hop, shop, go to the movies, hit the club, surf FaceBook and the likes. Occasionally, we throw in a dose of intellectual and physical activities like reading or hitting the gym.

Having more than a quarter of the year for leisure at disposal, how to spend it becomes an important question. For those who have already fallen in love with scuba diving, we have a selection of destinations for you. For those who are not a scuba diver yet, it might be time to get that certification!

  1. Anambas on Liveaboard MV Nautica

Named Asia’s Best Tropical Island by CNN.com in 2013, Anambas offers unmatchable visibility up to 30 metres and a good mix of things to see, from the occasional Whaleshark sightings and the Igara Wreck on a 4D3N long weekend trip. For 2016, there are monthly trips from March until October even over 3D2N. You can check out MV Nautica’s 2017 schedule to plan your trip ahead!

Eat. Sleep. And dive on MV Nautica Liveaboard. Take that giant stride of convenience and comfort on MV Nautica!

  2. Tioman

A well-known dive destination, there are two options to Tioman – MV Nautica Liveaboard and the regular land trip. The land trip looks like this – land transfer to Mersing Jetty on Friday evening, about 3 hours ferry transfer to Kampung Genting, where we usually stay at Genting Island Reef Resort. A weekend here brings you back to the good old Kampung days. OR, you could travel hassle-free on the Liveaboard MV Nautica. Where there is a constant supply of food and bottomless snacks!

  3. Tenggol

We were overjoyed when we found this place. Not that Redang, Perhentian, or the islands nearby are not great. But that little piece of haven, with minimal commercialization, this is it. The trip needs a minimum of 4D3N. If you are not doing anything over the long weekends, or just wanna escape to somewhere where nobody can reach you, Tenggol is the quick dive holiday getaway from the bustle and hustle from the concrete jungle.

  4. Bintan

45 minutes away from Singapore, Bintan is the nearest and most easily accessible location in the list.  You will reside in Bintan Agro Beach Resort, a three-star resort located at Trikora Beach. The dive sites are only about 10 minutes boat ride away, with two dives scheduled in a day, with the extra time on hand, you can get a massage, head over to the karaoke lounge or curl up with a book by the beach. (Learn more about Bintan diving here!)

  5. Dayang

About 3.5 hours away from Mersing Jetty, Dayang is a gem in the Malaysia Peninsular. Being the only resort on the island, it feels like you have the whole island to yourself, with a private beach. Dayang is a familiar name amongst local divers. Since the decrease of the Marine Park Fees to RM200 per weekend, divers have been streaming back in throngs. We are waiting eagerly for it to drop even further! (I feel awesome even just doing shore dives. Trust me, I really did last October..)
