Jacques Cousteau, the Godfather of Scuba Diving (and my idol), described Sipadan as “an untouched piece of art.” Also rated as one of the “Top Ten Dive Destinations in the World”, Sipadan is a much-raved-about dive destination in Southeast Asia that many scuba diving enthusiasts have on their list of must-visit dive destinations within this lifetime.

The bigger environment is one that we cannot control. The ecotourism industry needs to do a lot more and ultimately be regulated for continuous sustainability. As an individual, however, we can make individual decisions that can be a collective force of change. The ecosystem depends on each one of us as much as the dive operators.

The blue is what beckons us to start diving, muck diving is an acquired taste that some of us fall in love with and probably a love that lasts for a lifetime. The world of muck diving is definitely vastly different from blue water diving. Blue water diving brings considerably good visibility and the hope of possible big fish actions while muck diving brings low visibility and small stuff that you might not be so interested before you know of their existence. Here is a peek into the world of muck diving and 3 reasons why you should give it a try.

Whilst watching the show, the azure blue water bodies and the beautiful Grecian shorelines amaze me the most, other than the flashes of half-naked bodies of course. The water looks so welcoming and just beckons me. Unbeknownst to most, there is a lot of diving that can be done in Greece. Water temperatures range from 16 to 23 degree celsius depending on the time of the year. And of course, the visibility is the usual astounding 20 - 30 meters in the Ionian Sea. The Bay of Leganas is also the breeding place for rare species of sea turtles known as the Caretta-caretta Sea Turtle.

Too beautiful to forget. No proper jetty, just get off the boat and walk on soft sand and salty water. Blue sky, crystal clear water, no mobile network. The perfect time to mingle, no chance to escape from awkward moments. In this place, the simplest things became meaningful. Just toast and butter, plain porridge and salted egg, even jelly became so delicious. Then I learnt that memories are kept not only in photos, but in a safe corner in my mind. I remember. The moment when we are almost attacked by a trigger fish. Those times we lie on the rocky boat star gazing. The time that I screamed cos I saw a dolphin.
